There is still a common belief that technology is not advanced enough for a nearly paperless office. Technology is not the barrier for paperless, it’s the people. Paperless technology is available and proven to be successful and beneficial in a variety of business. It’s estimated over the course of a year in the health industry, that transitioning from paper based offices to electronic has the potential to save providers $35 billion in errors and $2.5 billion sheets of paper.
Our current electronic systems convert paper operation to web-based, online and electronic forms. Businesses save on the cost of paper as well as storage. Reducing paper processes allow staff to focus on other pressing responsibilities by saving time on correcting mistakes. Electronic records are stored safely in a database. Security compliance is easier a long with auditing. User activity, dates of activity, finances and any irregularities are easily monitored.
Businesses are going green slowly throughout the US especially by means of implementing a recycling program. Business consumption in the US causes the most forest degradation in the world. While we’re only 5%, we use almost a third of the resources for paper. That estimates 21 million tons of paper a year (900,000,000 trees). Recycling is a great start and saves 17 trees per ton of paper recycled and reduces pollution and energy; however avoiding depletion is best with electronic procedure.
